cincinnati road trip
We are heading to Cincinnati for a quick over night trip to see my son's "hero".....author/illustrator Dav Pilkey of the infamous (if you have a 7 year old boy) "Captain Underpants Series"!!! Any suggestions of things we should see or places to eat???? xo
My old stomping grounds:) The book signing is at Blue Manatee in Oakley square, correct?
ReplyDeleteA couple doors down is Aglamesis Brothers, my absolute favorite ice cream parlor in Cincinnati. It still has its original decor from around 1915 and the ice cream is delicious (their chocolate malts rock my world as well).
In same area is Busken bakery, in which I suggest you buy a pound of their tea cookies, which are crisp buttery rounds with a slightly chewy dollop of icing. It's addictive and great for long car ride home;)
There's a Skyline Chili also in this area-This is what I think about when someone asks me about food special to Cincinnati. A local chain that has chili cheese hot dogs or three ways (spaghetti, chili, finely shredded cheese). This is not your typical lumpy red bean chili, but a finely ground brown chili with hints of spices.
There is also a Goodwill thrift tore in this area if you are so inclined;)
This is just a quick list of what I can think of just in the book signing area (that area is nice, so just strolling around you'll come across some antique stores and shops)
LaRosa's (pizza chain), Graeters (ice cream chain), and Skyline are where we always eat when we're over there visiting family. Newport Aquarium and the butterfly show at the Krohn Conservatory are nice if you have extra time. Have fun!!
